Trivia: This is the true story of the U.S. 442nd Regimental Combat Team, made up of Japanese-American volunteers. It became the most decorated unit of its size in the history of the US military. Several of the main characters in this movie actually served in the unit during the war. The movie was nominated for the 1952 Academy Award for Best Screenplay. Director and writer Robert Pirosh won the 1950 Academy Award for Best Screenplay for Battleground, he also created the 1960s TV series Combat!. He was an Army infantryman in Europe during World War 2 and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
