When Zoe Jensen (Michael Learned) divorces her husband, she moves to San Francisco looking for new opportunities for her child and herself. After joining a talented church choir, Zoe must deal with the strict choirmaster Ephraim Adams (John Houseman). The film follows Zoe's struggles, as she learns about some of the hard times in her new friends' lives, and even discovers the lonely journey of the choirmaster.
Trivia: John Houseman (Ephraim Adams) won a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for The Paper Chase (1974) and starred in the TV series of the same name. Houseman also played Aaron Jastrow in the 1983 mini-series, The Winds of War. Michael Learned has won four Emmy Awards for Best Actress, and is well known for her roles in the The Young and the Restless, Law and Order: Special Victim's Unit and General Hospital. Director John Korty received an Academy Award for Best Documentary in 1977.
